Czech days of the week with translation and transcription

  • Pondělí [Pon-dyeh-lee] (Monday) — the morning alarm of the week, time to go to work and study.
  • Pondělí [Pon-dyeh-lee] (Monday) — the morning alarm of the week, time to go to work and study.
  • Úterý [Oo-teh-ree] (Tuesday) — the day when you can finally get into the routine.
  • Středa [Streh-dah] (Wednesday) — the golden middle, and it’s even in the name (střed — center).
  • Čtvrtek [Chtver-tek] (Thursday) — almost the weekend.
  • Pátek [Pah-tek] (Friday) — a working day, but in your soul, it’s already Saturday.
  • Sobota [So-boh-tah] (Saturday) — freedom! You can sleep, walk, and do whatever you want.
  • Neděle [Nyeh-dyeh-leh] (Sunday) — the lazy day when everyone prepares for the new week (or pretends to).

Abbreviations that won't confuse you

If you see unfamiliar letters in the schedule, don’t worry—they are just abbreviated days of the week:
  • Po — pondělí (Monday)
  • Út — úterý (Tuesday)
  • St — středa (Wednesday)
  • Čt — čtvrtek (Thursday)
  • — pátek (Friday)
  • So — sobota (Saturday)
  • Ne — neděle (Sunday)
Now, if you see Pá–So in the schedule, it’s not a secret code—it just means Friday to Saturday. 😊
