Preparing for international Italian exams is a very important step, if you want to use the language for work, admission to a university or just confirm your knowledge.
Which certificate is more prestigious?: CILS, CELI or PLIDA?
- CILS Exam (Certification of Italian as a Strashiera language) – it is an internationally recognized language test, developed by the University of Siena to assess a person’s ability to use the Italian language.
- PLIDA – this is an internationally recognized certificate, proposed by the Dante Alighieri Society, which is recognized throughout the world as proof of language proficiency.
- CELI – developed by the University of Perugia (University for Foreigners of Perugia).
Structure and what awaits you in the Italian CILS exams, CELI or PLIDA?
All exams include 5 parts:
- Audition (Ascolto). After listening to it, you have to answer the questions.
- Reading (Lettura). This part involves working with the text – reading, understanding and answering questions.
- Grammar (Strutture grammaticali). Here you have to answer questions, fill in the blanks and other test variations. In general, anything you can think of in grammar at your level. For the PLIDA exam, this part is only included for levels B1 and B2.
- Writing (Scrittura) – Essay.
- Speaking (Prova orale) – oral part with the examiner.

Who is the CILS exam for?, CELI, PLIDA and why they are taken?
The exams are designed to test the language proficiency of students for whom Italian is a foreign language. These exams are designed for both beginners and advanced learners, with language proficiency levels ranging from A1 (beginner) to C2 (near-native). Thus, it can be taken by anyone wishing to learn Italian, regardless of their level of proficiency.
This makes CILS, CELI and PLIDA ideal for people who want to study or work in Italy. Having the relevant certificate will allow them to prove their command of the language, which employers across the country find very valuable. It is also a great option for those thinking of applying to an Italian university, as most such universities require prospective students to prove their Italian language skills through a language certificate such as CILS, CELI or PLIDA.
What are the levels?
CELI has 6 certificates: CELI IMPATTO (A1), CELI 1 (A2), CELI 2 (B1), CELI 3 (B2), CELI 4 (C1) and CELI 5 (C2).
CILS has 2 elementary levels (A1 and A2), but the real exam starts with the intermediate level CILS UNO (B1), CILS DUE (B2), CILS TRE (C1) and CILS QUATTRO (C2)
And PLIDA has a standard gradation: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2.
Сколько времени нужно на подготовку?
Время, необходимое для подготовки к экзаменам CILS, CELI и PLIDA, зависит от уровня владения языком на данній момент, а также от интенсивности подготовки.
Как правило, для адекватной подготовки к этим экзаменам вам необходимо 1-2 месяца.
В течение этого времени студенты должны сосредоточиться на изучении материалов по грамматике, лексике и пониманию, связанных с конкретным уровнем владения языком, к которому они стремятся (A1-C2).

The cost of taking the exam in Ukraine depends on which level you are taking:
- A1 level costs 1200 UAH (30 USD),
- A2 level – 1400 UAH (35 USD),
- B1 level – 1600 UAH (40 USD),
- B2 level – 2000 UAH (50 USD).
- C1-C2 levels vary depending on which school you choose to take the exam. As a rule, prices range from 2000 to 2800 hryvnias (approximately 50-70 US dollars).
Unfortunately not, we can only prepare you. You need to take the test in Italian centers. They are available in all regional centers – Kiev, Dnipro, Odessa, Lviv, etc.
